19U Division squares off in international series during preliminary round

By Kevin Conway
WALPOLE, Mass. – The inaugural season of the Power Prep Hockey League Girls
Conference comes to a close with the association’s first-ever playoff showcase
weekend taking place at the newly named, dual-sheet Cadillac of Norwood Ice
Arena.
Eight clubs will compete for the coveted PPHL postseason championship in 19U
Division action, while four squads will square off for the crown at the 16U level.
All teams will compete in a three-game preliminary round from which they will be
reseeded based on the results for the semifinal and consolation rounds.
At 19U, all six league members will be in action, led by first-place Gilmour
Academy of Ohio, which has built a four-point lead in the standings over second-
place IronBound Elite of New Jersey during the first two season events. Since not
every member was available to compete in the season’s previous showcases, the
19U preliminary round has been set up as an international competition with the
United States teams, which includes Winchendon School of Massachusetts, taking
on their Canadian counterparts.
League members heading south of the border for the PPHL 19U playoffs include
third-place Bourget College of Quebec, King’s-Edgehill School of Nova Scotia, and
Ontario Hockey Academy.
In 16U play, league members IronBound Elite and Winchendon School will
welcome guest clubs Boston Advantage and Lovell Academy—whose 19U squad
claimed the PPHL’s second in-season tournament title in January by handing
Gilmour its first and only PPHL loss of the year. The four will square off in a round-
robin preliminary round then be seeded for Sunday morning’s semifinals with No.
1 facing No. 4 and No. 2 taking on No. 3.
Sunday’s championships contest for 16U is scheduled for the Cadillac of Norwood
Arena’s Olympic-size SuperTacks Rink at 11:40 a.m., while the 19U title game will
take place at 1:20 p.m. on the NHL-size JetSpeed Rink. All PPHL Girls Conference
playoff games will be live streamed on FloHockey.TV (formerly HockeyTV.com).
Founded in 2022, the Power Prep Hockey League boys conference was created to
bring together like-minded academies, prep schools, and AAA hockey organizations for a series of showcases designed to highlight the talents of the student-athletes from these prestigious institutions. The girls conference was born in 2023 under the same premise in an effort to better showcase female hockey athletes seeking to play at the next level.
